Tabletalk: Coming Soon

Sunday mornings are very monologuey. I know, that’s not a word. You always get to hear about what I see in the text of Scripture. I’m not the only one the Holy Spirit speaks to and through. That’s where our new tabletalk hour comes in. It’s another opportunity to raise up our congregation instead of any single personality.

On Wednesday nights, our adults have been walking through Luke’s Gospel, and it’s been amazing! I’ve seen our Wednesday evening group asking difficult questions, thinking deeply about the text, and offering diverse viewpoints without condemning one another—a truly refreshing habit for any church group. Yesterday, we even saw that Luke 23:28-31 probably isn’t about the end of the world in our future like it is often presented but, instead, more likely about the destruction of Temple in Jerusalem in AD 70. We’ve talked about whether Judas was saved, the tattoos on Jesus’s thigh in Revelation, and even the nature of our loved one’s presence in the current Heaven with Jesus.

I love that. Sunday morning isn’t the time to chase theological rabbits down rabbit holes that easily lose the point of a sermon. But, Wednesday evenings may be. Once we finish Luke’s Gospel, Wednesday nights are going to become something different for our adult group—a round table discussion about some of the deeper things of the text from Sunday morning. So, we are starting with the Bible and everyone gets a voice. While I will be the one guiding discussion, I know I will also learn a lot from you. In this way, iron will continue to sharpen iron at ASBC on Wednesday evenings!

Everyone is invited.
